Our story

Everyone needs to dream, La Rose B&B was the realization of a dream for its owners Adheera Bodasing and Yoann Nicolas. In many ways La Rose is a symbol of their relationship and is a wonderful mix of both their personalities and cultures.

Adheera is South African of Indian heritage. She hails from KwaZulu-Natal but based herself in Gauteng where she joined the professional rat race. She is a lawyer by profession but always secretly harboured the desire of owning a B&B. 

Yoann is a French citizen from Brittany in France, who, at the age of 21, drawn by a desire to explore, found himself in South Africa. He fell in love with South Africa’s vibrancy and was intrigued by the various cultures that existed here. During his stay he explored and visited almost every city and town in the country, which his job made possible.

Just as his journey in South Africa was about to end he met and married Adheera.

Cape Town was always a favourite destination for both and even before tying the knot they discovered Bo-Kaap and a "For Sale" sign on the front of 32 Rose Street. After buying the yellow house they decided that the best way to enjoy it was to open it to others to share, the idea of a Bed and Breakfast was born.

It took months of planning, sharing ideas and a total renovation of the interior of La Rose to produce what you see today. The best part being, that the couple, had to simply turn to their neighbours to find what they needed. In addition, many of the people who worked on La Rose came from Bo-Kaap, it really felt like a community project at times. 

All the artwork and pieces of furniture have a special history and were bought by Yoann during his travels; little did he realize at the time that many of the artworks were of Bo-Kaap and District Six. When they were hung at La Rose it seemed as though they had at last come home.

It is our wish that all visitors to La Rose will experience their love for Cape Town, enjoy the colour and character of La Rose and take the time to notice the art and derive the same sense of peace and satisfaction that it brings to us.
